How We Started
Dr. Patrick Caragata was repeatedly struck by the problems of the ratings industry throughout his work as an economist in Canada and New Zealand. The ratings industry used issuer-paid models and qualitatively-assessed ratings that were rife with conflicts of interest and biases, along with an insufficient means of measuring corporate or country risk. Dr. Caragata analyzed millions of company years’ worth of data to assess the financial health and performance of companies. In 1991, this research resulted in developing the initial framework for the Financial Health Rating (FHR) technology as a solution to these challenges.
In 2007, James H. Gellert and Douglas M. Cameron brought Rapid Ratings to the United States. As US bankers and entrepreneurs with extensive experience in the financial and business information services markets, they were the ideal team to launch Rapid Ratings in New York. Mr. Gellert is the company’s Chairman and CEO, Mr. Cameron is President and Director of Rating Operations, and Dr. Caragata is Executive Vice-Chairman and remains at the helm of research and development.
Now headquartered in New York, Rapid Ratings continually launches new products to meet the universal business need for high-quality & actionable financial health analysis.
