San Jose Mercury News: GoPro shares soar at market opening

October 30, 2014

GoPro on Thursday offered a glimpse of the action-sports camera empire it’s building when the company reported third-quarter sales that handily beat analysts’ expectations, suggesting that the pocket-size, durable cameras are selling like hotcakes not only to sports enthusiasts, but also to their kids and grandmas. “People who are spending thousands of dollars on heli-skiing, the difference between a $100 and $400 camera is negligible,” said James H. Gellert, chief executive of Rapid Ratings, a risk management company that rates the financial health of companies. “This is really about whether there is a market with a group of people who are not likely to spend $400 on a higher end camera.”
