Retailers At Risk: These Five Store Chains Face An Uphill Battle In 2016

“J.C. Penney just announced positive same-store sales reflecting a strong holiday season — exactly what it needed to up its momentum,” said Rapid Ratings’ CEO James Gellert. “Unfortunately, like many big mall retailers, it had to slash prices to bring customers in from the cold.” Also at-risk in 2016, per Rapid’s data: once-hot teen chain Aeropostale, which saw its stock fall over 90% in 2015. Rounding out Rapid’s list of the five most at-risk retailers are two apparel and accessories brands once considered industry standouts: J.Crew and American Apparel.
